Photographs document poet Ferlinghetti's visit to Nicaragua in January of 1984 during the aftermath of that country's 1979
socialist revolution. Photographs depict Ferlinghetti and Father Ernesto Cardenal, who accompanied them throughout their
visit, as well as many other subjects: workers, soldiers, children and other Nicaraguans; industry; military; views of Managua,
La Granja, Piñas Blancas, Lake Nicaragua and the islands of Solentiname; and other subjects pertaining to Nicaragua's history,
especially the revolution of 1979. Other individuals depicted include Daniel Ortega, Sergio Ramírez, Tomás Borge, Jaime Wheelock,
Daisy Zamora, Juan Bañuelos, and Pablo Antonio Cuadra. Some of these photographs were reproduced as illustrations in Ferlinghetti's
book documenting this trip, Seven days in Nicaragua libre.
